Hometown: Beirut, Lebanon

Bio: Maya earned her Bachelor of Engineering (BE) in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the Lebanese American University (LAU) in 2013. After graduation, she worked on a research project studying earthquake-induced landslides in Lebanon. Then, she worked as a geotechnical engineer at Dar Al Handasah- Shair and Partners, an international consultant based in the Middle East. In 2017, Maya earned her Master’s degree from Virginia Tech. Her thesis topic was a liquefaction case-study for a historic earthquake in Napier, New Zealand. Ever since, she joined the University of California, Davis for her Ph.D. and is working on the development of a constitutive model describing the cyclic response of (bio-)cemented sands.
